Transitional Powder Room With Rustic Nod

These have been wonderful clients over the years and we have completed almost every room in their home … except for the bathroom right as you enter. There is a powder room off of the entry that their guests never use, so they had been putting it off for years. Once we had the house consistent throughout … we jointly decided it was time to tackle that tiny space. We took everything out and designed a current yet rustic powder room to compliment the finishes and palette in the rest of their beautiful abode. The results are both charming and functional, yes to everything!!

Client Needs & Wants 

1. New cabinet with storage (We not only built a custom cabinet, but also customized a storage tower in their tiny corner. The cabinets are made of rustic walnut and are absolutely stunning … perfect compliment to all of the ‘lodge-like features’ in the home.)
2. New sink and toilet (Yes, we replaced their sink with a timeless, white under-mount sink and matched with a comfort height toilet ... THEN we added black matte fixtures and accents ... the cherry on top!)
3. A point of interest (This was fun!! While they love the rustic, lodge look, they also wanted something that was a little different. We gave the space a gender-neutral appeal while keeping in the same lane as the rest of the home design. The white painted shiplap is subtle and adds character while the taupe, patterned cement tile is the striking point of interest that brought the room together.)

Design Challenges 

In such a small space you’d think that there was no room for challenges. However, we did find that we needed to go back to the sketch board a few times to achieve the extra storage and charm our client was looking for. We DID build a cabinet to replace the floating vanity … though that was not enough for us … we had to find one more creative solution for this space. So, we customized the tower cabinet. Almost touching the ceiling, we added storage, open shelving and gorgeous glass display cabinets to show off her collectibles when her guests are 'waiting in line' to use their new powder room!!
